Update from WHC 12/4/12

Oh Forrest, after a rough night of post-op fevers and emesis, You managed to rally today. This morning with help you struggled up to sit beside and were able to sit for a while. You were game to try standing, though that didn't go so well with nausea taking hold again. Aunt Tricia and you share a special connection. She has a way of bringing calm and confidence that smooths many tough hours for both of us. And when you need a laugh, Tami ad libs jokes until your sense of humor bubbles up to the surface. The highlight of my day was watching your smile when Shayna reached out to you via FaceTime! You showed her your new PICC or Central Venous Catheter line that terminates in a large vessel near the heart, placed so that you can receive long term IV antibiotics to fight the infection at home. If all goes well tomorrow we are planning to liberate you on Thursday. We can't wait to return to BrightWood for you to continue your blessed journey of recovery. With love, Mum

  3. Hey Forrest. I am sorry to read that you have been struggling with nausea and to put it bluntly, barfing! :(

I really really hope that both firmly leave your hardworking body today. I will pray hard that you in fact can head home to the Man Cave today. Your own bed, sights and smells will calm your stomach and you will sleep much better, too, I bet.

I love your changing expressions....the hairy eyeball you're giving to the hospital staff member that thinks standing up was a good idea at that precise moment, and the loving smile reserved for your beloved Aunt Trish.

Despite this not so small speed bump in the road, I'm thankful that you are rallying in your typical Forrest fashion as quickly as you are able.

Come on home, dear boy....Christmas is coming and you have some celebrating to do with your friends.

    Much love,
Shannon and the Davis party of 6

  4. It's Thursday, going-home day, we hope. We're relieved that the surgery went well and that you're recovering from a superficial infection on the scalp, although that is nothing to sneeze at, either. I hope the post- op issues are resolved enough to get home comfortably. It's great to have Aunt Trisha there for you and for Mum. I'm so glad to hear that you have a joke-teller on the team. Laughter is the BEST medicine (seriously).
Let us know when you are comfortably settled at home.
    Love,
    Diane & Jay

  5. Happy Yuletide season Forrest!!
Today is the day you were predicted to head home to BrightWood, and I hope that is the case. The progress that you make daily absolutely astounds me, and I am reminded every time you post that miracles do exist. You are incredible Forrest.

I am sure you are excited for college exams to come to a close, knowing BrightWood will suddenly be inundated with friends back in town, excited to learn how to talk with you, walk with you, throw a ball around, and just spend some quality time.

If I were at William and Mary for the Yule Log ceremony, I don't think I have to tell you what my wish would be when I threw my sprig of holly into the fire, but I will anyway. My wish would be for your constant recovery, speedy recovery, and progress towards your goals of walking and speaking again. I wish I lived closer to Virginia to pop in and visit with Team 44. I am sending strong thoughts your way for a healthy and happy Yuletide Season, and Chrismas. Keep up the good work Forrest.

    Ever your fan,
    Sheila
