Update: 11:30pm on 7/30

Forrest remains in ICU. I'm watching him tonight, he's sleeping quietly as I write this. Overall he is doing well. He had a restful night last night, and was pretty alert for the nurses when they did periodic neurological evaluations.

Earlier today we had a brief scare when it looked like he lost some pressure in his skull. The area where the bifrontal craniotomy in January was noticeably more sunken than earlier this morning. He was slightly less responsive. This is reminiscent of the crash he had in late May, so obviously we were quite concerned. The programmable shunt was readjusted and he was declined in the bed to reduce fluid loss from the head. It's seemed to re-inflate and he's doing better. The head surgeon will re-evaluate him in the morning and we will go from there and hopefully get him started on food again.

Thanks for all the well wishes, keep him in your thoughts,
Austin and Team 44

  4. We hope this last surgery will be the key to hasten Forrest's recovery. The smile and chuckle you got last week from the beanbag football antics must have been pure treasure. Thoughts and prayers 24/7.
    Stay strong.

  5. Austin, your post is a reminder to us just how precarious and intricate these surgeries and treatments can be for Forrest. Thank you for giving me something specific to pray for - balance.

I pray that Forrest's medical team finds the perfect balance of shunt function to give Forrest the perfect amount of SPF surrounding his beloved brain.

Beloved brother. That would be you. What a keeper you are for Forrest and a fortress of support for your parents. I will specifically pray that you are uplifted this week and your own reserves fortified, Austin. You simply ROCK.

    We love your family.

  6. I found my way here from a friend's blog, Kathy's Peace. I read the first few months of this blog and will read more of Forrest's story. I just wanted to add my good thoughts and prayers for Forrest to everyone else's. He's a huge inspiration and a fantastic guy with an amazingly indomitable spirit! I love it. Forrest is also fortunate to have a wonderful team of family, friends, caregivers and supporters.

I'm thinking of and praying for you all.

  7. Forrest, your name is at the top of my prayer list. Your family is very close behind. I pray that their strength, support, unwavering dedication and love continues to be fortified and nourished by all the people who continue to pray for all of you. You are so blessed, you have such amazing parents, aunts, family members, friends and a brother that many would love to adopt.

Austin, since January 14th, you have been the rock that has become the cornerstone for your family. I am in awe of your strength, dedication and patience. I am so proud to know you. I pray everyday that you will all be rewarded very soon with a healthy and strong Forrest.

    Take care,

    Gaby

  10. Forrest my brave youg warrier!! Just wanted to say 'hi'. May I borrow some of your bravery for tomorrow. I'm going to have an eye surgery tomorrow and I'll need to use it. I'm going to Kansas City and will drive by our old farm where you and Austin played in Granpa Doc's barn. I remember you boys running up and down the big stack of hay bales in middle of indoor arena. Remember any of that? Such fun having you at the farm; going fishing at the big pond. Such fun memories we built. .. and all the horses in the pastures. I love you Forrest. and Austin ..and Mom and Dad. :) :)Grandmom Allen

  12. Greetings to all of Team 44,
I haven't commented in awhile but I wanted you to know we are all still out here praying for all of you. I know everyone wish we could do more to aid in Forrest's recovery and to support his amazing team. Keep your spirits flying high and keep doing all the stunts to make him laugh. Remember the Robin Williams' movie Patch Adams ? He knew and proved the healing powers of laughter. Maybe some I Love Lucy reruns? Monty Python? Love and positive thoughts and a healthy laugh to all

  14. certainly like your web site but you need to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts.

A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very troublesome to
tell the truth however I'll certainly come again again.
