Home!

Yesterday afternoon, Forrest and his entourage departed Washington Hospital Center and journeyed home to snowy BrightWood.  Forrest is receiving IV antibiotics around the clock and has family members staying with him at all times.  Balance continues to be an issue as his body adjusts to life without his "lid".  He is anemic, has lost ten pounds and tires easily.  We are so thankful for the countless prayers, caring texts, phone calls and visitors that helped us bring him home again. Tonight his spirits were visibly lifted when multiple visitors stopped by the ManCave to welcome The Champ home.  Music and laughter filled BrightWood as Forrest played guitar and sang with Hunt and Sue Lyman, friends Nick and Peyton, Austin and Grandmom Norma.  So tonight the stars shine a little brighter and laughter sounds a little sweeter as we fill the house with healing love and energy...thankful for Forrest's unfailing courage and perseverance.

With Gratitude,
Team Forrest

  1. We are constantly thrilled that so many of Forrest's contemporaries have continued to visit, email, post on FB, sing, and party with and for Forrest. It's remarkable that, while immersed in their own busy lives of graduations, starting college, traveling, making new friends, etc., so many have made staying close to Forrest a priority. We KNOW that it lifts the spirits of your beleaguered family, as well as gives Forrest both grounding and optimism for the future.

These latest surgeries have seemed such low blows yet, knowing Rae as we do, we're sure that she can/will find the glimmers of opportunities they have presented. Some of the comments in the previous posting have already reminded us all that each procedure has provided another stepping stone forward AND that Forrest's story is, undoubtedly, a source of hope and inspiration for others struggling with similar medical challenges.

For now, settle into your cosy home, Forrest, and let your body continue it's healing journey. Dad's cooking, Mum's smoothies, Austin's jokes, Trisha's thumb wrestling, Grandma Norma's smiles, and the "Atta boy" attitude of all around you will help. Get lots of rest and don't play any football over the next few days :)

    We love you all.

    Diane and Jay

  4. Forrest, so glad you are home! I know all your friends at WHC were glad to see you, but its good to know you're back in the Man Cave! I know this holiday season was not the season Team Forrest was visioning, but lucky for y'all it is 2014 now. And, since we're finally back to a year with a four in it, this is YOUR year. Forrest, I can't tell you what great and strong feelings I have about this year being the year of 20-FORR-teen (I'm still good for a corny joke, promise! :) ). Keep up all your hard work and keep fighting, champ! Give everyone a hug for me and make someone give you a big hug from me! I can't wait to hear about all the wonderful things you accomplish this year!

Sending lots of love from South Carolina,
    -Maylin

  11. Hi Forrest,

We're so glad you made it back to the man cave, where it looks as if you are having a great 'jammin' session. You're the man--the miracle man, and I'm sure your amazing doctors, team, and parents will come up with a fantastic groundbreaking way to manage going forward. Keep up with the best smiles in the world, and all your progress. You are the ultimate 'cool guy'!
