Yet Another Hospital Detour 12/14/13

Darlin' Forrest,

Your road this last three years has certainly been tumultuous. Full of exhilarating summits and disheartening lows, followed by unexpected hairpin turns.

Yesterday your wounds started seeping through your head bandages.  So we find ourselves once again at Washington Hospital Center with another scalp incision breakdown. We had so hoped you were done with these surgeries and had planned a surprise 21st birthday lunch with Austin  for you tomorrow. Instead, we will lock arms and hope and pray that tomorrow will be the LAST surgery.

On a good note, the postage stamp size hospital rooms we are so familiar with were all full so we upgraded to a sweet suite. We are jokingly calling it the Birthday Party Suite. Wish we could order in a bunch of pizzas and beer and have all your friends over!  Next year Darlin' for sure. Meanwhile your faithful sidekick Toliver helps you charm all the nurses and encourages you to get out of bed and do your PT in the hospital hall.

Wishing and praying for the best 21st birthday gift ever, a smooth recovery from a successful FINAL surgery,

Mum

  1. Hey Forrest,
I am so sorry to hear you are back in the hospital. My hope is joined with that of your mom that this will be the last time you will need surgery.
So as you stand at the eve of your 21st birthday I rejoice with you at all the accomplishments you have achieved in this past year. You are such an incredible and amazing young man. I am so blessed to know you and to have been part of your fantastic journey. My life has forever been changed by the time I spent as your nurse.
I hope you have a great birthday tomorrow (even if it is in the hospital). Knowing you and your family, you all will rock that place! I am thinking about you and praying for you. Tell everyone I said hi. I'll see you soon.
    Blessings and love,
    Nurse Karen

I've been thinking about you all day - and how you might spend tomorrow. I love you so very much Forrest. You and your brother Austin are such super grandsons. I will be praying for you and have plans to see you very soon. (Grandma Norma)

  4. Well, I got behind in reading the blog again, and I find that you are back in the hospital again. Bummer! Will pray for a successful surgery today with FAST healing and NO scalp incision breakdown this time. I know you can handle it, though. You are a trooper who continues on through every setback that comes along. Thinking of you and praying for a good outcome!!
    Love, Joyce Ellis

  5. Forrest,
Sorry to hear you will be spending another birthday in the hospital. But knowing your amazing drive and positive attitude along with your outstandingng team 44 family, you will all find a way to make the best of it! I remember " breaking you out" of NRH for your 19th birthday to the National Aquarium... It is incredible how far you've come! I too feel blessed to have been a small part of your journey to full recovery. Wishing you a quick post-op (hopefully the LAST!)
